Southern University coach Terrence Graves has been fired after opening the 2025 season with a 1-6 record.
Graves took over Southern’ s football program in December 2023 and led the Jaguars to a 8-5 season in 2024.
“I want to thank Coach Graves for the energy, determination, and for leading the team to a Western Division championship,” Southern University athletics director Roman Banks said in a statement released to the media.
“This was a difficult decision, but the results on the field were not acceptable. After evaluating every aspect of the football program. I believe that it is in the best interests of Southern football student-athletes, our fans, and our university,” Banks statement added.
Graves previously coached as the interim head coach of Grambling State University in 2021.
Southern co-offensive coordinator Fred McNair will take over as interim head coach after Graves’ departure.
