It’s never too early to think and prepare for the next upcoming holidays, and as the WDSU Halloween decorations came down Wednesday, I am looking to Thanksgiving.
It’s still too early to get a definitive read on the weather for Thanksgiving 2026, and the Climate Prediction Center is offering limited information for temperatures in November. However, I looked back at the last 20 years to get a sampling of previous Thanksgiving weather.
Thanksgiving this year will be on Nov. 26, and the average high for that date in history is 69 degrees, with the average low being 51.
Generally, November is a transition month, with high temperatures decreasing significantly between the beginning and the end of the month. The average high for Nov. 1 is 75 degrees, but by the end of the month that average goes down to 68.
In the last 20 years, we had five years where we saw measurable rain at Louis Armstrong International Airport. The coldest Thanksgiving over the past 20 years was in 2013. The high was only 47, and the morning low was 34. The warmest occurred in 2010, when the high was 82 degrees.
Stay with WDSU as the holiday gets closer for a look at the weather for 2026.
