The National Alliance on Mental Illness Safe Haven campus in St. Tammany Parish could be closing in 2027.
In a social media post, NAMI said the parish issued notice that our current agreement will end on Dec. 31, 2026.
The agreement extends temporary housing arrangements to residents, but it does not include the administrative offices, NAMI’s closet, or any program space.
The organization said renting the remaining building is beyond what their budget can support.
If the decision stands, NAMI SELA could be forced to leave Safe Haven and potentially St. Tammany Parish altogether.
NAMI SELA is asking the community to speak up and attend the parish budget public hearing on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m.
Since 2005, the Safe Haven campus in Mandeville has provided a home for 12 residents and a place for thousands of people to access mental health services, peer support, clothing, education and other resources.
