About Julia Letlow:
Letlow gave up her seat with President Donald Trump’s endorsement, and faced farmer and Democratic candidate Jamie Davis on the ballot.
Letlow served in Congress for 2 1/2 terms after taking what would have been her husband’s position in the 5th Congressional District.
She was first elected in March 2021 when she ran for office after her husband, Luke Letlow, died from COVID-19 after winning the same position.
Luke Letlow won the position Dec. 5 in a runoff against state Rep. Lance Harris. Just 24 days later, he died from complications of COVID-19 before he was officially sworn into office.
Julia Letlow launched her campaign shortly following her husband’s death, vowing to carry on his platform.
A special election was called, and in the spring of 2021 Julia Letlow won in a landslide, taking the place of outgoing Congressman Ralph Abraham.
Letlow, a native of Monroe, is a mother to two and an administrator at the University of Louisiana Monroe, where she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in speech communication.
Should the results continue to trend in her favor, this will be her first term in the U.S. Senate, replacing former Congressman Bill Cassidy after he failed to win the primary as the incumbent.
