Butler faces up to 40 years in prison for the killing of Samuel Tague.
Witnesses testified that Samuel Tague had gone to his ex-girlfriend’s apartment looking for the woman and punched the front door.
Cashmere Butler, along with Tague’s ex-girlfriend and another woman, went to the apartment to assess the damage.
While Tague and his ex-girlfriend were speaking in a parking lot, Butler rushed up to Tague, pushed and held him against a wall with his left forearm and pushed his gun into Tague’s gut.
During the struggle that ensued, Butler fired once.
Tague died less than an hour later at a hospital.
Butler admitted to shooting Tague but claimed he was defending himself and others during a tense discussion between Tague and his ex-girlfriend.
Butler was arrested for second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
During two hours of deliberation, jurors opted to find him guilty of the lesser-included offense of manslaughter.
