Following her visit to Paris, France, Mayor Helena Moreno is traveling directly to Paris, Kentucky for a trip that will last less than 24 hours.
She’ll be joining New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans owner Gayle Benson and other Louisiana business leaders in positioning New Orleans as a potential future host city for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, should an opportunity become available.
One of the world’s premier thoroughbred horse racing events, the Breeders’ Cup rotates among host cities and attracts international competitors, thousands of visitors and significant global attention. Hosting the event would represent a major tourism and economic development opportunity for the cities selected.
An avid horse racing enthusiast, Mrs. Benson has had three colts from her GMB Racing stable run in the Kentucky Derby. In 2016 both ‘Mo Tom’ and ‘Tom’s Ready’ raced in the sports biggest event, and in 2018 ‘Lone Sailor’ competed in the Kentucky Derby.
Mayor Moreno did not use any city funds, paying for the trip to France herself.
She will also use her personal finances to pay for this quick stop in Kentucky and will not use any city funds.
