The New Orleans Police Department is responding to a major crash on Interstate 10 East near North Claiborne Avenue.
At this time, the two right lanes of I-10 East are blocked.
According to the NOPD, a dump truck crashed and fell off the elevated interstate near the Esplanade exit.
At this time Claiborne Ave at Columbus Street East Bound (ground level) and I-10 Eastbound @ Esplanade are closed to traffic until further notice.
Motorists are advised to take alternate routes and avoid this area.
According to police, the driver and passenger inside of the dump truck were injured and taken to an area hospital.
It is unclear what their statuses are.
Police said a car parked near where the truck fell was damaged in the incident, but no one was inside at the time of the crash.
There is no timeline for when roads will reopen.
Those traveling to Slidell or New Orleans East should take Interstate 10 to West End and take Interstate 610 as an alternate route.
