The Slidell Police Department has arrested an 18-year-old in connection with an accidental shooting tied to a social media video.
According to Slidell police, Jarvion Evans, 18, was arrested after an accidental shooting in Slidell left a 16-year-old injured.
Officers responded to the shooting at a home off Pontchartrain Drive on Saturday, Oct 16., after 10 p.m.
According to police, the teens were filming videos for social media when Evans accidentally fired a gun, striking the 16-year-old in the shoulder.
The 16-year-old was taken to an area hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police say Evans ran away from the home before police arrived, but later turned himself in.
Evans cooperated with investigators and led them to the gun, according to police.
Slidell Police Chief Tommy Williams issued a statement stressing the importance of handling guns safely.
“This incident serves as an important reminder that firearms must always be handled safely and responsibly,” said Williams. “Firearms are not toys, nor should they ever be treated as props for social media. Careless handling of a firearm can have devastating, life-altering consequences. We are fortunate that this incident did not result in an even greater tragedy, and we wish the victim a full and speedy recovery.”
