An attorney who pleaded guilty in a wide-ranging staged wrecks scheme has been sentenced to prison.
Danny Keating, a lawyer who pleaded guilty to his role in the scheme to stage wrecks with 18-wheelers across New Orleans, was sentenced Thursday before federal Judge Nanette Jolivette Brown.
Keating received a sentence of 32 months and will be on supervised release for three years after he finishes his sentence.
Keating, who admitted guilt in 2021, faced up to five years in prison.
Based on his cooperation, the federal government recommended up to two years in jail, but the judge gave him more than that.
Keating served as a key witness for the prosecution last March, testifying against Vanessa Motta and Jason Giles during their trial.
Motta and Giles were convicted of staging wrecks and filing false insurance claims. Keating admitted to doing the same and explained to jurors how the scheme worked.
Keating has surrendered his law license.
Sentencing for Motta and Giles, who face more than 20 years in prison, has been continued with no date set. Both remain jailed.
