Areas across the Gulf Coast are assessing damage after Hurricane Isaias made landfall Friday evening near Destin, Florida.
Isaias made landfall as a Category 2 around 8:30 p.m., and as of Saturday morning, it has weakened to a post-tropical cyclone.
The dangerous storm traveled at a rate of 18 mph with 105 mph winds. It was expected to continue weakening as it moved over Florida and into parts of Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.
Destin:
The Mayor of Destin, Bobby Wagner, and the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media that they are assessing damage in the area.
Many areas in Destin are still without power, and residents are being asked to do their best to conserve water.
Flooding, downed trees, and power lines were also reported across the city.
Pensacola:
Public safety crews in Pensacola are assessing damage following Isaias.
Thousands are also still without power in Pensacola, and the area is under a boil water advisory.
One death has also been reported in Escambia County, Florida.
Tallahassee:
Crews are cleaning debris and making electrical system repairs to neighborhoods in Tallahassee.
Birmingham:
One person was killed overnight in Birmingham after a tree fell on a house.
Many areas are dealing with downed trees and power lines following heavy rain and winds from Isaias.
