A Jefferson Parish School Board member has been found not guilty in connection with a battery case.
Derrick Shepherd was in court on Tuesday, where a judge found him not guilty of battery.
Shepherd was accused of battery against a woman back in February.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, on Feb. 10 around 11:42 a.m., a woman reported to police that Shepherd approached her while she was using an ATM in the 500 block of O’bannon Street.
The victim claimed Shepherd grabbed her arm and she forcefully pushed him away and they got into a verbal fight.
The victim claimed to police that bystanders had to intervene.
According to police, security camera footage was consistent with the victim’s story, and showed that physical contact was initiated by Shepherd.
Shepherd told police that he was trying to shake her hand when she pushed him away.
At the time, he received a municipal summons for battery.
