A Houma family and their cat escaped a raging house fire Monday morning.
The Houma Fire Department responded to the fire on Clairmont Lane around 6:15 a.m.
A person passing by the home notified the fire department and the people inside the home.
Those inside were able to escape safely.
The fire started in the backyard and spread up the side of the house before burning through the roof.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire and rescued the family’s cat from inside the home.
No injuries were reported, but the neighboring house sustained some damage.
