A 13-year-old in Houma was arrested after allegedly bringing a loaded handgun to his Junior High School.
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a 13-year-old male student has been arrested on multiple charges following a firearm incident at Evergreen Junior High School.
On Friday, September 25, school resource officers received information that a student on campus had a firearm.
The school was immediately placed on lockdown, and administrators and deputies began searching the student.
Detectives responded and assumed control over the investigation.
During the interviews at the school, a student reported that the student had shown him the gun and threatened to shoot him if he reported it.
The student was interviewed after completing the applicable juvenile procedures, and investigators determined that the handgun had recently been stolen from a relative’s home.
The student was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, terrorizing, menacing, theft of a firearm, illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, and carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student or nonstudent at school.
He remains detained pending court proceedings.
This is an ongoing investigation. The sheriff’s office is withholding the juvenile’s identity.
