St. Bernard Parish announced a new fire chief on Wednesday.
Parish President Louis Pomes selected Chief Ryan Roy for the position.
According to Pomes, Roy transitioned into the administrative ranks of the fire department in recent years.
Pomes said Roy has been instrumental in modernizing fire department operations. His accomplishments include assisting with the revitalization of departmental administration, creating and implementing new community outreach initiatives, and advancing professional development opportunities for personnel at all levels, according to a news release issued by Pommes office.
Roy holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from Upper Iowa University and a Master of Science in Leadership and Human Resource Development from Louisiana State University.
Roy said in an issued news release that he is excited to lead the fire department.
“I am very excited to lead such an amazing group of firefighters. Through countless hours of leadership development, mentoring, and professional growth, I feel prepared for this opportunity and the challenges that come with it. I look forward to serving our department and our community in this new capacity,” said Roy.
