A new audit found oversight problems in New Orleans youth sports programs.
The office of inspector general released a report saying the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission lost about $150,000 each year by not collecting fees required by city code.
The report says booster clubs operated at just 5% of playgrounds hosting NORDC teams, leaving teams at other parks with minimal guidance and oversight.
It also found NORDC did not enforce its own policies for volunteer coach background checks.
The OIG recommends clearer policies, stronger background checks and better security at games.
