A man accused of killing his own brother, a St. John the Baptist Parish deputy, has been found incompetent to stand trial, according to online court records.
Darius Guerin was arrested last year and accused of fatally shooting his brother Shaquille on Thanksgiving Day in Waggaman.
Shaquille, 35, died from his injuries in the shooting.
Guerin was indicted on charges of second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, and aggravated flight of an officer, according to online court records.
Guerin has been committed to the custody of the Louisiana Department of Health and has been ordered to take part in the Jefferson Parish CARES program to have his competency restored.
Once doctors have determined he has been rehabilitated, Guerin’s court hearings will resume in the case.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, they were called to the 30 block of Marigold Lane in reference to a shooting.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Guerin lying in the street in front of the home suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Life-saving efforts were attempted but were unsuccessful, and Guerin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies learned that Darius Guerin fled the scene in a car, and around 7 p.m., a deputy spotted the car near the intersection of Ames and Lapalco boulevards.
When deputies attempted to stop him, he refused to stop.
A chase ensued, and he stopped in the 100 block of Jean Lafitte Boulevard in Lafitte.
Darius Guerin ran from the car, and deputies were able to catch him and arrest him, as well as locate the firearm.
The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office issued the following statement following Shaquille Guerin’s death:
“It is with deep sadness that St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre and the men and women of the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office announce the passing of our colleague and friend, Deputy Shaquille Guerin who was tragically killed in Jefferson Parish on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025.
“This incident is still under investigation by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy Guerin, age 35, has been with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office for eight (8) years and 65 days. He was assigned to the uniform patrol division. He also worked in the detective bureau.
“‘Shaquille did his job well! He had the heart of a public servant,’ Sheriff Tregre said. ‘He carried and showed positivity as an employee for the St. John Sheriff’s Office and teammate to his coworkers.’
“Deputy Guerin is survived by his wife Roxanne and their three children.
“We ask that you would keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.”
