A former correctional officer at the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center has been arrested after hitting an inmate.
Jamyranesha Williams, 24, was terminated on Thursday after she admitted to hitting an inmate who had been taunting her.
Following the investigation, Williams was issued a summons for simple battery on Friday afternoon.
She had been employed as a correctional officer with the sheriff’s office since July 2024.
“Our employees are expected to conduct themselves professionally at all times, regardless of the circumstances,” Sheriff Bret Ibert said. “When someone fails to meet those standards, we will address it immediately and hold them accountable.”
