The New Orleans Saints produced one of the best comebacks in franchise history, overcoming a 21-point deficit and forcing overtime against the powerful Detroit Lions.
But, in the extra period, the Black & Gold fell short losing the 2026 season opener in the Motor City 31-30.
After a slow start in the first half, quarterback Tyler Shough came alive in the second half and in overtime, accounting for 410 yards passing and three touchdowns.
In overtime, after the Lions scored first, Shough hooked up with tight end Noah Fant for a score. Head Coach Kellen Moore passed on kicking a game-tying extra point and possible ending the game in a tie, instead he went for a 2-point conversion and the win.
Shough’s pass attempt to rookie Bryce Lance was off the mark, allowing the Lions to escape with a victory.
