The New Orleans Saints and hundreds of volunteers gathered at the Caesars Superdome Friday morning for the 9/11 Day Meal Pack.
The event brings volunteers together to pack thousands of meals for the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Organizers said the event reflects how Americans responded in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 and commemorates the day 25 years later through unity, service, and common humanity.
The program began with a moment of silence, followed by a ring of remembrance and a song of solidarity, “America the Beautiful.”
Saints owner Gayle Benson reminded volunteers of the resilience shown by the city during Hurricane Katrina and the unity displayed by the country after 9/11.
“When circumstances are at their worst, we have the ability to be at our best,” Benson said.
The hundreds of meals packed during the event will go directly to families in need across Louisiana.
