A Baton Rouge court will be closely watched by football fans across the country on Thursday.
The 19th Judicial District Court will hear arguments in the Jack Plyburn, et al. v. National Collegiate Athletic Association at 11 AM. The judge is set to rule on the preliminary injunction that could permit former NFL players to return to college sports, sparking a significant debate over NCAA eligibility rules.
LSU is at the center of the controversy, but reports indicate that several teams across the country are considering adding former NFL players to their rosters.
The decision comes with a tight deadline for SEC teams, as LSU must finalize its roster 24 hours before its Saturday game against Clemson.
In a late-night filing, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill urged the court to side with the recruits.
Murrill described the NCAA tactics as a “bait-and-switch.”
“Public institutions should not have to choose between obeying the judicial process and protecting the financial resources entrusted to it by the people of Louisiana,” Murrill wrote to the courts.
