A water main break in the Lake Terrace neighborhood of New Orleans has caused significant damage, leaving a homeowner frustrated and raising concerns about communication failures within the Sewerage and Water Board.
Contractors are actively working on repairs, and the damage includes the loss of an oak tree.
The homeowner said the situation could have been avoided if her original report had been addressed.
Executive Director of the Sewerage and Water Board Randy Hammond acknowledged the communication issues within his department and said he’s frustrated by the disjointed communication through his department, and he says that he wants to see that improved via their processes.
New Orleans Councilman Eugene Green is also seeking answers, requesting a report from the utility on how serious leaks are received and addressed.
“The goal is to make sure problems like this are fixed before they escalate,” Green said.
The situation remains under review as officials work to address the homeowner’s concerns and improve communication processes.
