Former Vice President Kamala Harris participated in a back-to-school rally hosted by InspireNOLA Charter Schools at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre in New Orleans.
Harris spoke with students about education, leadership, and staying true to oneself.
The event began with singing and chants from InspireNOLA students, who welcomed Harris to the rally. Harris shared her message of empowerment, saying, “You gotta be in the fight, but being in the fight from my perspective is about fighting for something. And often what you stand for is going to be about the betterment of all people, about lifting people up.”
Students joined Harris on a panel and asked questions such as “Who inspired you to become who you are today?”
The rally featured multiple panels that focused on leadership, philanthropy, and voting. Jamar McNeely, CEO of InspireNOLA Charter Schools, explained the purpose of the event.
“This is all about our students and our community. It is an encouraging day to get our kids in school, get our students ready to focus, to get our students to be an inspiration for our city and nation,” said McNeely.
InspireNOLA plans to host more rallies like this in the future.
