A beloved ice cream shop owner will be laid to rest Monday.
Funeral services are scheduled Monday for Angelo “Bubba” Brocato, the third-generation owner of the long-serving gelato and pastry parlor in Mid City.
Brocato passed away in July at the age of 85.
A visitation will take place at noon at Greenwood Funeral Home on Canal Boulevard, followed by a memorial mass at 3 p.m. Burial will be private.
About Brocato:
Brocato was the third-generation owner of the ice cream shop alongside his brother Arthur. The shop is known for its Italian-Sicilian pastries. Their timeless traditional favorites are handed down from generation to generation. The shop is iconic and was named a finalist for a James Beard award in 2023 in the outstanding bakery category.
Brocato graduated from Redemptorist High School in 1959, where he proudly played football and was a member of the school’s only championship football team, an accomplishment he treasured throughout his life. In 1961, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Seville, Spain, serving his country honorably for three years before receiving an honorable discharge. In 1966, Angelo married the love of his life, Lavenia. Together they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage, raised 3 children and built a life centered on faith, family, and unwavering devotion.
