Just days after the Louisiana Attorney General claimed a New Orleans prosecutor triggered a grand jury indictment against her, Jason Williams is trying to clear his name.
In an apparent move of contrition, the Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams told WDSU on Thursday that he’s not interested in drama.
“I don’t want to fight with the governor. I don’t want to fight with the AG,” Williams said. “I’ve made it very, very clear that I played no role. I did not initiate or handle any part of that grand jury investigation.”
This is the first time Williams has been seen publicly since the high-profile showdown between the two governments.
On July 22, Governor Jeff Landry and Attorney General Liz Murrill vowed justice against what they referred to as “malicious prosecution.”
Murrill, who suggested Williams should be disbarred, accused him of misinterpreting the statute he is accused of violating.
Landry, who stood next to Murrill during the heated press conference, previously said a special legislative session is not “off the table.”
The charges against Murrill were dropped.
