Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a phone scam where the caller is impersonating a Washington Parish deputy.
WPSO says the caller claims the office is holding a fundraiser for new equipment and is asking for donations.
The sheriff’s office says they or any other law enforcement agents will not ask for money or sensitive information over the phone.
Scams like this can come from several different phone numbers, and these people are good at masking their location and voice. They frequently target the elderly and are good at manipulating people, so everyone should remain alert.
