The St. Tammany Parish Library Board of Control unanimously passed a resolution to remove late fines for library patrons.
Starting August 3, no new late fee charges will accrue, and all late fees will be erased from patron accounts.
Patrons are encouraged to return or renew materials before the due date, and any items not returned 45 days past the due date will result in a replacement fee equal to the cost of the item.
The Library Board says returning the items will erase the fee from the account.
The change will remove the long-standing procedure of adding a block on patrons’ accounts once they reach $5 of fines, even when the material was returned.
Under the old fine-based system, patrons who had a block were unable to check out any materials, including digital materials and museum passes.
Fees for other services will still stay in place, such as out-of-parish library cards, card replacement fees, Makerspace fees and printing. Printing for veterans and active members of the military has been waived since July 2025.
