The Slidell Police Department is looking for part-time school crossing guards to help students safely travel through school zones during the academic year.
The department is accepting applications from people who are at least 18 years old, have reliable transportation and are in good physical condition. Applicants cannot have felony convictions and must be dependable, punctual and professional.
Crossing guards will earn $16 an hour and work Monday through Friday on school days. Those hired can expect to work between 15 and 20 hours each week, depending on their assignments.
The position includes two shifts each day. Guards will work between 1.5 and two hours in the morning and another 1.5 to two hours in the afternoon. Exact hours will depend on the assigned school zone.
The job also includes holiday pay for school holidays and eligibility for sick leave.
