The New Orleans Police Department is preparing for its annual Night Out Against Crime event in October and is encouraging neighborhood groups and community organizations to register their parties and events.
The event is part of the nationwide National Night Out initiative, which aims to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
Night Out Against Crime brings together residents, police officers, city departments and community organizations for block parties and neighborhood gatherings across New Orleans.
NOPD officials say the event gives residents an opportunity to meet local officers, get to know their neighbors and learn about crime prevention resources available in their communities.
More than 100 neighborhood events have been held across the city during previous celebrations.
