Hammond police say two people were killed Saturday night in a high-speed motorcycle crash near West Thomas Street at the Chanell Shopping Center.
Hammond police said the motorcycle driver was improperly passing another vehicle when the motorcycle collided at high speed with a vehicle in the intersection.
The impact threw both riders from the motorcycle.
Police said the driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
“Impairment is not suspected as a contributing factor in the crash, but as in all fatal crashes, a blood sample will be taken and submitted to the State Crime Lab for analysis,” police said.
The names of the two people killed have not been released.
