Two women were arrested Tuesday after police say a shoplifting call at a Walmart in Ponchatoula turned into a case involving a gun and more weapons found in a vehicle.
According to the Ponchatoula Police Department, officers were called to the store on July 14 after employees asked for help.
Police say 31-year-old Jonquelle Robinson tried to steal items from the store and was stopped by a loss prevention worker. As the worker followed her outside and called police, officers say 32-year-old Marguarette Seymore got angry, threatened the worker and showed a handgun.
When officers arrived, they found the two women trying to leave in a vehicle, police said. During a search of the vehicle, officers found two AR-15-style rifles and the handgun they believe was used in the incident.
Both women were arrested and booked in connection with the case. Seymore was booked on a felony charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.
Police have not shared more information about Robinson’s charges. The case is still under investigation.
