The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested multiple people in three separate copper theft cases since the start of the month.
The first case involved two AC units and a third unit stripped from a church on Highway 1065 over three separate incidents. After tips from neighbors and surveillance cameras, the two suspects were caught right across the street, with one of the stolen units still on-site.
Robert Myrick, 47, and Jeremy Thompson, 46, were both arrested for this incident. They were each booked on one count each of burglary of a religious building, theft and simple criminal damage to property.
Robert Magee, 45, was booked on one count each of simple criminal damage to property and theft. Magee was already in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on a different copper theft case from earlier that month.
Since this arrest, Magee has been booked in a third copper theft case from the last week of June.
Deputies say they received a call from a local scrapyard about a man and woman trying to sell a large amount of suspected stolen copper.
Detectives were able to quickly find their car with all of the materials piled in the back of the pickup truck, and the suspects were arrested.
Chrystal Watson, 37, of Roseland, was arrested on an outstanding felony theft failure to appear charge, and Adam Warren, 39, of Roseland, was booked on a theft warrant out of Mississippi.
The TPSO believes that the recovered property is connected to multiple thefts in Tangipahoa Parish and Mississippi. Detectives are working to attempt to connect the items to the pending and possibly unknown cases.
Detectives are also asking for the public’s help with a copper theft that was caught on camera June 28.
Deputies say an AC condenser was stolen from an 82-year-old man’s shop on Crapanzano Road in Hammond, which is costing him $20,000 to replace.
Sheriff Gerald Sticker encourages anyone with information about who this suspect is or their whereabouts to contact the TPSO Criminal Investigations Division at 985-902-2088.
