Families can explore underwater technology and try hands-on science experiments during Pontchartrain Conservancy’s third annual remotely operated vehicle expo in New Orleans.
The Underwater Robotics ROV Expo will run from Tuesday, July 14, through Saturday, July 18, at the New Canal Lighthouse. Activities will be available from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Registration is not required.
The event will feature six daily activities focused on robotics, engineering, coding and the environment.
Visitors can pilot remotely operated vehicles through robot soccer and magnet fishing challenges. They can also use underwater cameras to observe aquatic life in Lake Pontchartrain.
Other activities include guiding DASH robots through an obstacle course and completing programming challenges. Participants can build circuits and interactive projects using Snap Circuits and Makey Makey.
A hydraulic arm station will show visitors how hydraulics power machines. Families can also create coral-inspired artwork while learning about coral ecosystems and marine habitats.
Pontchartrain Conservancy Executive Director Kristi Trail said the expo gives visitors a closer look at the organization’s work across the 16 parishes in the Pontchartrain Basin.
“Our expert team is excited to show attendees how fun science can be through interactive ROV demonstrations and hands-on STEM activities,” Trail said in a news release.
Admission is $15 per person and includes access to the New Canal Lighthouse Museum.
