Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill has formally asked that Orleans Parish Judge Leon Roche be recused in the matter involving the 2025 jail escape in New Orleans.
The cases of all 10 escapees and others charged with aiding in the breakout were all assigned to Judge Roche.
He has been handling matters on all cases on the jailbreak for over a year.
Murrill filed the motion to have Roche recused yesterday.
The Attorney General’s office is handling the prosecution of all escaped inmates, who were picked up at various times last year.
Roche is the judge who presided over a grand jury that indicted the AG early this month.
The Louisiana Supreme Court granted Murrill an emergency stay in the case.
Murrill is expected to have more on her motion today.
This is a developing story.
