The Blood Center and X Games New Orleans are extending a promotion that rewards blood donors while helping replenish the community’s blood supply.
X Games organizers decided to extend the offer after seeing the response to the initial promotion, according to The Blood Center.
Now through July 18, anyone who donates blood at one of The Blood Center’s fixed-site locations can request one free X Games ticket. Donors must ask for a ticket if they are interested. Tickets are available while supplies last.
The partnership gives community members an opportunity to see some of the world’s top skateboard, BMX and Moto X athletes while supporting patients across the region.
The promotion comes during one of the most challenging times of the year for blood collection. Summer vacations, holiday travel and school closures often lead to fewer donations.
The demand for blood, however, remains steady. Patients receiving cancer treatments, undergoing emergency surgeries or recovering from traumatic injuries depend on lifesaving transfusions. People with chronic illnesses also need blood products throughout the year.
“The need for blood doesn’t take a summer vacation,” said Paul Adams, public relations manager for The Blood Center.
Adams said the partnership gives community members an opportunity to support local patients before attending the action sports competition.
“While fans prepare for an incredible weekend, we’re asking our community to first spend an hour donating blood to help ensure local patients have the lifesaving blood they need,” Adams said. “It’s a simple way to make a lasting difference before enjoying an unforgettable experience.”
The inaugural X Games New Orleans will feature top skateboard, BMX and Moto X athletes from around the world.
Eligible donors can schedule an appointment at TheBloodCenter.org. Donors must visit a fixed-site location and request a ticket to receive the promotional offer.
The Blood Center needs to collect 200 to 250 blood donations each day to serve patients at more than 50 hospitals and health care facilities across south Louisiana and southern Mississippi.
Each donation can help save multiple lives and ensure blood is available when patients need it.
