The Hammond Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying individuals involved in a shooting early Saturday in downtown Hammond.
The suspects were captured on surveillance cameras, and following the incident they were last seen entering what appears to be a silver Nissan Altima, traveling eastbound on Robert Street.
One person was injured in a shooting, according to police.
“It is an absolute shame that people act like this. It shows their complete disregard for everything when a police officer is standing so close and they still commit this type of act,” Chief Edwin Bergeron Jr. said.
Police working in the downtown district heard multiple gunshots at about 2:09 a.m. and responded to the area to locate the source of the gunfire, police said.
Officers secured the scene and later determined that one person had suffered a gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to North Oaks Medical Center for treatment and is expected to recover.
Police said the injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
During the preliminary investigation, officers attempted to interview the victim and his brother, but police said both refused to cooperate with investigators.
The shooting remains under investigation.
