A judge has ruled that a gold ring will be admitted as evidence in the trial of former New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell and her ex-bodyguard Jeffrey Vappie.
Last year, Cantrell and Vappie were indicted on numerous charges, including conspiracy, wire fraud, and obstruction.
The indictment alleges they were in a long-term scheme to defraud the city and conceal a personal relationship.
The judge also prohibited federal prosecutors from introducing evidence that Cantrell misused campaign funds to purchase alcohol and personal clothing.
The trial is set to begin in March of next year.
