The New Orleans Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire Thursday evening at a four-unit apartment building in the 3800 block of Texas Drive, rescuing one woman from a second-story window.
The fire department received the call at 5:09 p.m. and dispatched units immediately. The first company arrived at 5:16 p.m. and reported heavy smoke and fire. A second alarm was requested at 5:17 p.m.
Firefighters rescued a woman from a second-floor window as other crews worked to extinguish the fire, which started in a bedroom. All other residents evacuated safely.
The fire was brought under control at 5:40 p.m. Sixteen units and 44 personnel responded. No injuries were reported.
Seven displaced residents are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. Three neighboring four-plex buildings were temporarily without power as Entergy worked to isolate the affected units.
