Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport officials urge residents to prepare for a busy Fourth of July travel weekend.
Thursday is expected to be the busiest travel day for MSY as many people fly out for the July 4 holiday and several others arrive for Essence Fest.
AAA expects a record 72 million people will travel for the holiday weekend, with 61 million expected to drive and about 5 million to fly.
For those hitting the roadways, the average price to fill up a tank in Louisiana is $2.78.
The Transportation Security Administration and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) officials offered tips to improve people’s flying experience and reduce stress:
- Plan out a parking location early.
- Empty your pockets before security screening.
- Leave prohibited items at home to avoid delays.
- Have a valid ID ready for security checks.
- Remember 3-1-1 rules for liquids: Liquids must be in containers of 3.4 ounces or less, all containers must fit in a one-quart clear plastic bag, and each passenger is allowed one bag.
- Put phones in a carry-on to speed up the security process.
Another valuable tool is the AskTSA social media handles. Questions from travelers are answered in real time, even before leaving home.
