Former New Orleans Saints linebacker Keith Mitchell has passed away.
The Saints signed Mitchell as an undrafted free agent in 1997 out of Texas A&M.
He played for the Saints from 1997 through 2001 and earned Pro Bowl honors in 2000.
Mitchell played in 79 games and started 61 games in a Black and Gold uniform.
Mitchell had 381 total tackles, 18.5 sacks, 9 forced fumbles, 8 fumble recoveries and 4 interceptions in five seasons with the Saints.
His best season came in 2000, when he racked up 94 tackles, a career-high 6.5 sacks, returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown and had four fumble recoveries, one returned 90 yards for a touchdown.
After leaving the Saints, He played one season in Houston and Jacksonville.
Mitchell was 51 and the cause of death is unknown.
