Cellphone video courtesy of Mike Kok shows what appears to be a tornado dissipating and then reforming seconds later.
“It’s right there, look, you see it’s right there still,” said Kok, who had fence damage. “When I saw it, it was too close for comfort; let’s go back inside.”
Just across the street, a neighbor was still shocked after seeing trees in back yard now in his front yard.
“Oh (expletive), get away from the windows,” Marc Miner said.
Parish President Louis Pomes said it was an isolated event that happened around 6 p.m. Friday evening.
Pomes said there were roughly three to four homes with significant damage, including one with a roof gone.
The parish president said at one point up to 2 thousand customers were without power because of a damaged power line.
Despite all the devastation, no one was hurt.
“Right, it’s just a matter of getting our residents and other residents secured, those who need to get hotel rooms for the night or family members coming to pick them up,” Pomes said. “It feels very good that we have no reported injuries.
Pomes couldn’t give an estimate on how many people were displaced, but was grateful there aren’t that many injuries.
The owners of one house with major roof damage declined to go on camera, but said the home was vacant for years.
