A Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office lieutenant has been terminated after being involved in an off-duty shooting in Franklinton early Friday morning.
Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office says they received a 911 call reporting gunshots on Bud Slocum Road in Franklinton around 1:36 a.m. on Friday.
Deputies learned that Lieutenant Jay Dupre of the Criminal Patrol Division was among the people involved in the shooting.
Dupre is being charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and home invasion. His bond his set at $25,000.
WPSO says Dupre was off-duty, out of uniform, and not operating an office car at the time of the shooting.
No one was shot or injured during this shooting.
Due to the serious nature of the allegations, the Louisiana State Police were requested, and an independent criminal investigation was conducted.
According to Washington Parish Sheriff Jason Smith, after reviewing the initial facts, Dupre’s employment with the sheriff’s office was terminated.
“Deputies must conduct themselves professionally and lawfully, on duty and off. That standard does not bend for rank or years of service. Dupre served this office for 15 years, and that service was real. His conduct in this matter fell below the standard I expect, and I acted on it.”
This is an ongoing investigation.
