The Washington Parish Balloon Festival opens in Franklinton today, with a full day of events planned and hot air balloons already drawing attention across the area.
WDSU anchor Aubry Killion got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look as balloon crews arrived with the director.

According to the posted festival schedule, today’s events include:
- Noon — Festival opens
- 5:30 p.m. — Tethered rides
- 7:30 p.m. — Rodeo
- 7:45 p.m. — Balloon glow
- 10 p.m. — Gates close
Organizers note that all balloon times are tentative and weather dependent.
The festival continues through the weekend, with more balloon events, rides and entertainment scheduled in Washington Parish. Visitors are encouraged to check the latest schedule before heading out.
