The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is reminding drivers that Interstate 610 will be fully closed in both directions this weekend as part of an ongoing $9.5 million roadway improvement project in Orleans Parish.
The full closure of Interstate 610 eastbound and westbound, including ramps, began at 11 p.m. Friday, May 29, and will continue through 5 a.m. Monday, June 1, weather permitting, according to the department.
The closure will allow crews to conduct paving operations along Interstate 610 between Interstate 10 near the 17th Street Canal and Interstate 10 near Franklin Avenue.
During the closure, motorists should use Interstate 10 eastbound and westbound as the primary alternate route. Detour signs will direct drivers to the alternate route.
The work is part of a larger roadway improvement project that includes concrete patching, asphalt paving and related roadway rehabilitation designed to improve road conditions and extend the service life of the Interstate 610 corridor.
