A man who was mistakenly released from the Orleans Parish Justice Center turned himself in Wednesday morning.
Dreion Williams turned himself in to OPSO, according to the U.S. Marshals.
Williams, who is accused of several battery and assault charges, was mistakenly released from jail on May 21, according to the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The department says Williams release was all a mistake.
A news conference is scheduled with Sheriff Michelle Woodfork for noon Wednesday regarding the matter.
What led to the release:
The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office claims Williams was given a court order of release on May 21. But the bail company surrendered that bond, and that did not make it into the court record.
OPSO claims the records department told the judge, and Judge Ziblich issued a warrant for his arrest.
OPSO says newly-inaugurated Sheriff Michelle Woodfork “immediately deployed” teams to the defendant’s home address and to the victim. Williams was not found, according to OPSO.
Who is leading the search:
U.S. Marshals Fugitive Taskforce is helping OPSO in the search.
The sheriff’s office says they believe Williams may have left New Orleans.
