Thousands of American flags are displayed on the front lawn of the Louisiana State Capitol as a Memorial Day tribute to fallen service members.
Members of the Blue Star Mothers organization and other volunteers planted the flags, each representing a fallen Louisiana service member.
“As we mark Memorial Day, I ask all Louisianans to join me in honoring the lives of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation,” said Gov. Jeff Landry. “Being an American is one of the greatest privileges in the world, and it is because of the sacrifices of a few that all of us continue to enjoy the freedoms we hold dear. Today and every day, I am grateful.”
The display carries a deeply personal meaning for many families and serves as a somber and powerful reminder of the ultimate sacrifice.
