A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 6pm for The North Shore.
A Flood Watch is also in effect until Sunday evening
As expected, it is shaping up to be a very wet and stormy holiday weekend forecast, with the possibility existing on Saturday of a strong thunderstorm. The Storm Prediction Center indicates that much of the WDSU viewing area has a marginal risk to see severe weather on Saturday.
The main concerns with the thunderstorms on Saturday could be some wind gusts close to 60 mph, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
However, heavy rain is also a possibility through the beginning of next week, and rainfall totals over the weekend through Tuesday could be anywhere from 5 to 10 inches on the North Shore and in the metro as well.
Flash flooding will be a consideration through the weekend, as the storms may produce as much as 2 inches of rain in less than an hour. Severe weather is not expected Sunday and Monday, but the heavy rain threat will continue through the Memorial Day holiday.
