The former Orleans Parish sheriff was in court Friday morning, where she was due for arraignment following her indictment.
Former Sheriff Susan Hutson was due to enter her plea in connection with a 30-count indictment brought forth by Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill.
Hutson’s former Chief Administrative Officer, Bianka Brown, was also in court for her arraignment.
However, the judge assigned to the case, Judge Leon Roche, recused himself.
Hutson did not enter a plea, and the court has yet to assign a new judge to the case.
Hutson was seen leaving court but did not answer questions from the media.
Hutson is facing charges of malfeasance in office, conspiracy to commit malfeasance in office, filing or maintaining false public records, conspiracy to commit filing or maintaining false public records, obstruction of justice and conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice.
Following her indictment, Hutson issued a statement saying she will “aggressively fight to clear my name. The timing of this indictment is concerning; it will not deter me from pursuing every available legal action to demonstrate that these accusations are unfounded.”
She is currently out on bond.
