Saturday was the last day to vote early, and one local church helped get people to the polls.
The Rock of Ages Baptist Church organized transportation and a community bike ride to help residents vote and boost civic engagement.
More than 15 buses were positioned throughout the city, and 60 bikes were made available for those who preferred to participate in the community bike ride.
“We really came together and several other community partners to say this is our opportunity to motivate our fight, so we wouldn’t be a part of the exclusion that is trying to happen and be passed down in Baton Rouge. It’s to cultivate our people so we wouldn’t put time in between voting and nothing would happen,” said Pastor Jonathan Everett.
The initiative aimed to encourage voter turnout and civic participation.
Election day is May 16.
