Today marks 20 years since the Saints drafted Reggie Bush with the No. 2 pick. It was a franchise-changing decision as Who Dat Nation welcomed the USC running back who had won the Heisman trophy and was often called a human highlight reel. In the weeks leading up to the drafts, many thought the Texans would take Bush, but instead took defensive lineman Mario Williams.
The pick came at a time when the Saints and New Orleans were rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina. Ticket sales soared and Bush became a centerpiece of the offense. He helped the Saints win their first Super Bowl in franchise history.
On the rebuilding front, he poured funds into facilities like Tad Gomley and donated cars to the Slidell Police Department.
