During the first Saturday of Jazz Festival, the city woke up to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, but the wet weather did not discourage the crowds from dancing, eating, and connecting with others from all over the country and world.
“The clouds do not matter, the crowds do not matter,” said Brandy Paige, New Orleans attendee, “Come out, eat, have fun, enjoy the music.”
WDSU received tips about long wait times at the front gates due to AXS tickets not working, but after speaking with multiple attendees in line and on their way out of the festival, the issue appeared to have been resolved.
“When we were coming straight up the street, we saw two considerably long lines, down, past the grounds on either side,” said Denver Green, attendee from Texas, “but we were able to just walk in and get straight through.”
Although long lines remained at the food and drink stands, festivalgoers didn’t seem to mind.
“You’re not bothered by the lines because you see the impact that the fest has,” said Micah Turner, who performed on the Congo Stage with the Black Magic Drumline, “Not just locally, but internationally. We met a lot of people from Russia and England. It was very beautiful.”
